About

The Jighead.com is a collection of my experiences as an (extremely) avid angler. I am a multi-species angler who currently resides in Ottawa Ontario. Previously, I lived in Prince Edward Island Canada for ten years, and I did most my fishing there at that time. I do take a few fishing trips every year.

Rainbow trout and Brookies occupied the majority of my time in PEI. Many of the local rivers have a healthy sea run brook trout population, and a few key rivers hold some impressive steelhead reaching the 30″ mark. Other species targeted include Atlantic mackerel, striped bass, Atlantic salmon, white perch, winter flounder, smelt, and eels. I’ve also played around with some micro fishing from time to time.

Currently living in Ottawa means I’m targeting the warmwater species around here. There’s a ton of species in the area to target and I’m very excited. Smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pike, muskie, crappie, sunfish, gar, carp, and catfish are some of the species that live around Ottawa. Lake Ontario is within driving distance as well, which has awesome trout and salmon fishing.

Even though I fly fish almost exclusively now, my love for fishing began with drowning worms for brookies on the east coast as a kid. That evolved to chucking spoons for striped bass, before I eventually got bitten by the fly fishing bug while targeting sea run brookies. Now I target everything on the fly, from musky to walleye.

I’ve become quite an avid fly tyer. Currently I tie most of my own flies, and love trying out new patterns.

Hopefully through my experience, I can help the readers to become better fly anglers, spin anglers, and fly tyers… and of course to have more fun out on the water!
