liquid soft plastic bait wallet for fishingI’m a heavy user of scented soft plastic baits when fishing for flounder, although they can be used to target almost any fish species. Scented plastics are often liquid soaked to both keep the baits from drying out, and keep the attractant fresh. Many liquid soaked plastic baits are sold in containers that are are prone to leaking. The smaller jars that the smaller sizes of Berkley grubs are sold in, are particularly bad for leaks. Getting that scented liquid all over the rest of your lures and tackle not only makes a mess, it can also cause the other tackle in your box to rust prematurely.

I tried a couple of solutions to leaky scented liquid problem. The best product I’ve found for storing scented plastic baits is the plano liqua-bait wallet. It has a seal around the rim of the container that makes it completely air tight and leak proof. The storage wallet will not let any liquid leak out of the container. You also won’t smell the plastic baits at all until you open the bait wallet. It’s also large enough to contain a large number of plastic lures, while still remaining small enough to fit inside most tackle boxes.

I’ve dropped this box a few times and it hasn’t suffered any damage yet, so it’s fairly sturdy. This bait box is also very easy to open and close, so you can use it on the water without fighting with it. I’ve been using the same box since I bought it many years ago and it’s still holding up fine with no leaks.

You can also use it to keep your hardware lures dry when not in use. This is useful if you’re on a kayak, boat, wading, or doing any other kind of fishing that carries a high risk of dropping your lure container into the water. This will make you lures last longer by keeping them rust free, especially if you fish in salt water.

I keep a variety of scented plastics in the same liqua-bait wallet. Just pour the contents of the liquid soaked baits in, both the liquid and the and baits included. I have a bottle of gulp alive recharge liquid that I use to replace the liquid at the start of every season, as it does get a little nasty after a full season of sitting in the heat at the beach.
